Seeking Board Members!

For a strong alliance, we need a diverse Board of Directors who will guide the organization to its highest potential.

We are seeking new board members. Regardless of whether you’re a seasoned Alaska wildlife advocate or new to serving on a nonprofit board, we want you to apply! We are looking for Alaskan applicants to help us determine the future of AWA and Alaska’s wildlife.

What is a Board of Directors?

Our Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers with a passion for Alaska’s wildlife. Directors serve two-year terms on a voluntary basis and are responsible for the governance of the organization. Board members are expected to attend (in-person or remotely) quarterly meetings and join a Board committee so they may exercise their skills for Alaska’s wildlife. Board members are expected to participate in at least 3 of the 4 meeting each year. New board members are elected by a majority vote by the existing Board. Our Board of Directors:

  1. Establish Organizational Identity

    • Promote AWA’s mission and define its purpose in an ever-changing landscape

    • Advocate for AWA’s vision

  2. Ensure Resources

    • Oversee the Executive Director

    • Enhance AWA’s public standing

    • Build and sustain a thriving Board of Directors

    • Assist in securing financial resources for AWA’s important work

  3. Provide Oversight

    • Support and evaluate the Executive Director

    • Monitor and strengthen AWA’s programs and services

    • Protect AWA’s assets and provide financial oversight

    • Ensure legal and ethical integrity

If you are interested in joining our Board, please complete the form below by November 15th. After your application is submitted, a member of the Nominations Committee will be in touch with next steps!

Board members bring a diverse perspective to our work - you do not need a career in wildlife management to be qualified. This year, we are underrepresented in rural members and those with legal experience, but all are encouraged to apply. We seek Alaskans who are passionate about wildlife and protecting Alaska’s ecosystems.
