Join us for a free presentation by Shiway Wang, Science Coordinator for the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council, to learn more about the status of the recovery and restoration efforts in Prince William Sound. With two decades of research experience encompasses areas all over Alaska including the Aleutian Islands, Pribilof Islands, Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea, Dr. Wang focuses on marine food web dynamics and tracking carbon sources through ecosystems. Dr. Wang will talk about research currently conducted within the Long-term Monitoring Program (Gulf Watch Alaska) and the Herring Research & Monitoring Program with results to date. They will also show a film created by the Alaska State Parks (Department of Natural Resources)- Listening to the Sound: The work of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council (approx. 18 min). The film includes historic footage of the spill, new interviews and information on the scientific and habitat work funded by the Trustee Council since the spill.
Dr. Wang earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder, and an MS and PhD in Marine Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
