We’re back! Alaska Wildlife Alliance is part of the Alaska Beluga Monitoring Partnership (AKBMP), and we are starting our third fall monitoring season this August! YOU can learn about the local critically endangered Cook Inlet beluga population and be trained as a citizen scientist to collect information that is important for their conservation. The beluga monitoring season this fall will be from August 15th - November 15th 2021.
New Volunteers:
There will be a virtual volunteer orientation on Monday, August 9th at 6:00- 7:30pm AK time. This live volunteer orientation will be recorded, and anyone wanting to become a volunteer can watch the recording at their own convenience. If interested in signing up, please register here.
Returning Volunteers:
Please feel free to signup for the virtual or recorded orientation if you want a refresher. We deeply appreciate the positive comments and the helpful guidance you have provided to make our monitoring program better. There are some small updates on the monitoring protocol and data entry. Additionally, there is a new location for monitoring this fall. Stay tuned for those updates in August, and please feel free to reach out by email if you have any questions. To register, please visit here.
For more information about the partnership, visit AKBMP’s website.
Note: During the process of getting our season up and running, know that we are closely monitoring the ever-changing status of the pandemic and the safety of our volunteers is the greatest priority. Similar to our spring season, we will have monitoring requirements in place for your safety. More information to come.
