Join us this summer for FREE guided wildlife walks! It’s going to be a “beary” good time!
Why we are doing this: Alaska is a magnificent place with some incredible wildlife, and we want to get folks out to enjoy it all! Anything can happen, and every walk will be different.
What to bring:
water
adequate walking/hiking shoes
weather-appropriate gear
$5 for potential parking fees
bear spray
photo ID (for beers!)
binoculars (helpful, but not required)
wildlife ID guides (helpful, but not required)
sense of adventure
flock of friends and/or family (of all ages!)
When this all happens: Wildlife walks will take place from 6-7pm, and we ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes early to sign a safety waiver. From 7-8pm, we will be spending time at local Anchorage brewery, King St. Brewing Company, to casually gather and chat about all things “wild.” You can attend the walk, the brewery, or both!
Who can attend: Anyone with a sense of curiosity and love for wildlife! Trails will range from easy to moderate in difficulty, and walks will likely be no more than 1-2 miles. There will be several breaks to look at wildlife or anything else of interest. Sorry, but dogs are not allowed at this event.
Where are we going: Glen Alps Trailhead to Middle Fork Loop, Powerline trail (Chugach State Park). Meet in upper parking lot, the same parking lot for Flattop trail.
What we could see: Many different birds such as waterfowl, migratory songbirds, and raptors, moose, porcupine, Dall sheep, bears, and more! Please note, there are no guaranteed sightings for wildlife.
What to look for when you arrive: Look for our team in AWA shirts near the trailhead. We will have clipboards, an AWA sign, safety waivers, and smiles!
If you have any questions, please contact our Outreach Coordinator, Kelsey, for more information.
We look forward to seeing you out on the trails!
