COASSTLite! Virtual Trainings for Sitka, AK

The Alaska Wildlife Alliance is a proud partner with the Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST). COASST is a citizen science program that focuses on monitoring beaches from Alaska to Northern California for beached birds and marine debris and looks to use this information to find patterns on beach health. COASST works to translate long-term monitoring of these marine environments into effective conservation solutions and responsible marine stewardship.

Interested in becoming a citizen scientist to support your local coastal environment? COASST will be holding two virtual training sessions for their COASSTLite! program in Alaska for both residents of all of Alaska and for Sitka, AK at the end of June. These training sessions are designed to teach new volunteers the basics of beach surveying and monitoring with COASST, with future training sessions covering more advanced information to eventually become a fully-fledged COASST volunteer. Participants need NO prior experience with scientific data collection, just a commitment to survey a specific beach at least once a month.
