Superstar volunteer Laurie Craig is the posterchild of an exciting project we're rolling out in Juneau!
Laurie is standing in front of Juneau’s new electric bus (woo hoo!) with a very special sign. These signs were designed from a collaboration between Alaska Wildlife Alliance and Alaska Department of Fish and Game to educate riders about taking care of their trash, which keeps bears and people safe. Right after this photo was taken, the placard was installed in the new e-bus which will be dedicated later this week. Seventeen more placards are ready to go into the fleet of diesel buses, too!
Want to help spread the word? If you catch the bus in Juneau, safely take a picture of yourself with the sign and tag Alaska Wildlife Alliance. You can also tag us in photos of you using bear-aware practices when taking out garbage or prepping your house for a Bear Aware summer.
Run through ADF&G's bear aware checklist to make sure you're ready for the bears to wake up! You can also read our guide about how to be Bear Aware during this waking-up season!
We want to give a big thanks to Laurie Craig, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and our Southeast chapter board members and supporters for making this initiative possible - thank you!
