Welcome!
In partnership with the University of Alaska, Alaska Wildlife Alliance is happy to welcome our new, remote communications intern, Ben Hall.
Ben’s love for storytelling originated from his love of film and video game narratives, which pushed him to pursue a future career in the writing industry whether it be creative or technical. He believes that there is a narrative in anything, and that belief allows him to apply skills derived from creative writing in the typical professional environment. Ben has written several screenplays of varying lengths from feature length to short films, and also works a a freelancer writing professionally curated blogs and website content. From his experience in freelance work, he has obtained the ability to efficiently research virtually any subject to learn the ins and outs of it within a day. He likes putting in effort to become a diverse writer with experience in a variety of fields rather than restricting himself to one facet of writing.
Tell us a bit about yourself
I grew up in Chugiak, Alaska. As far as my hobbies go, aside from the now typical playing video games, I enjoy writing screenplays, dissecting and understanding the medium that is film, snowboarding, mountain biking, and taking on whatever creative project piques my interests. As an example, I'm currently developing a small game with a friend as a side project, as well as expanding my repertoire of screenplays and scripts. I'm pursuing an English degree with a minor in Creative Writing at UAA.
Why did you choose to intern with Alaska Wildlife Alliance?
I chose to intern with AWA due to the broad potential of varying projects that were posed as possibilities when I was seeking an internship. The range of projects is relevant because I can both aid AWA with my current abilities while ultimately expanding my horizons and positioning myself in such a way that allows me to gain experience that is helpful to my career.
What kinds of projects have you been working on, and what do you look forward to working on?
I have established a working database format for sifting through incoming PRA (Public Request Act) documents as well as utilizing said database to help provide simple insight into the narrative of the PRA project. I look forward to continuing to establish AWA's digital footprint through continued work on the Wikipedia page, enhancing AWA’s use of search engine optimization, drafting and publishing new blogs, and whatever else comes out of the woodwork.
