A huge congratulations are in order for AWA’s Vice President, John Morton. John was recently awarded the Olaus Murie Award for Outstanding Professional Contributions by the Alaska Conservation Fund.
The Olaus Murie Award recognizes longstanding service to Alaska by individuals working in a non-profit organization or a public agency responsible for the environment.
John will be presented with his award at the Alaska Conservation Fund’s 2024 Conservation Achievement Awards, happening on October 3 from 6:00pm to 9:00 pm at the Anchorage Museum. Tickets can be purchased from ACF’s website and on Eventbrite.
John also recently published two papers; one article, published in Ecosystems and People, dealt with research on controversial resource management interventions, such as the use of herbicide on invasive aquatic plants. The second, published in Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, examined the phenological patterns of soundscapes of ecosystems, and whether the seasonality of the soundscapes coincided with weather variables that are used to monitor climate.
