Denali Wolves on The Wolf Connection Podcast
In March, we were honored to speak as a guest on the The Wolf Connection podcast! This podcast explores the intricate bond between humans and wolves, seeking to better understand our relationship with one of humankind's earliest teachers; the wolf. Re-discovering this human/wolf connection may prove to be essential to our development as individuals, the cultivation of productive societies, and a sustainable civilization on this planet.
On this podcast, you will experience a wide array of guests, such as Scientists, Authors, Conservationists, Visual Artists, Ranchers, Hunters, Naturalists and even Wolf Connection Staff & Volunteers! On episode 166, you’ll hear from AWA’s Executive Director, Nicole Schmitt!
Since this podcast aired, the Alaska Board of Game unanimously voted down the Denali wolf buffer proposal. Read more on our upcoming Fairbanks Board of Game summary blog.
From the episode:
Nicole Schmitt has been the Executive Director for Alaska Wildlife Alliance for over 6 years. They protect Alaska's wildlife through citizen mobilization, advocacy and education. Recently there have been calls to expand hunting and trapping around Denali National Park to protect moose and caribou herds. Nicole spoke at length about Alaska Wildlife Alliance's mission, the issues surrounding hunting and trapping of wolves near Denali National Park, and the consequences on the ecosystem of not finding a long term solution for this piece of land designated as the Stampede Corridor.
